The "Coup" would be Bruce Welch's Moonlight Shadows.
Its about the only thing that would entice me back to Lakeside.
The Rapiers for sure, I'm not sure The Foottappers are still going, The Shadowers, Shazam.
Here's one for thought - instead of groups / bands, why not break the mould and have some INDIVIDUAL Performers for a change?
cheers

We have heard the same that a decision on bands should be next week. Lets hope they have also decided on a sound engineer who understands instrumental guitar music.

Talking of the sound at Lakeside, last year it was very basic and there were no real sound system or large speakers at the side of the stage as there were at the SM events so the quality of sound was poor. There were small speakers on the edge of the stage and the sound set up was dreadful if you were near the front as I was.

I'm sorry to say but the Lakeside event is no Shadowmania in any way or form. They need to listen to us Shadows fans to get some ideas as to what bands to put on and perhaps change the format a little. There are some good bands in UK and Europe that would go down well at a Lakeside Shadows event. Here's my choice but maybe not all at the same time.

1. The Rapiers. The popular London Shadows band. If they had Jimmy Jermain with them we would have a "Cliff and The Shadows" performance.
2. The Ryders from Sweden. A fabulous band who play Shadows numbers and those great instrumental tunes from Lennart Clerwall. Look them up on You Tube if you don't know them.
3. The UB hank band. They are back on the road again and they played at the Shadows convention in Verden Germany last year and Shadowdania in 2010.
4. There are many "club" bands around the UK that are up to the mark who I'm sure would like to take part and entertain us and some of them are very good.

Just my thoughts

I can't remember the name of the Cliff impersonator last year but he is the reason I won't be going this year, he might be on the bill again.

Maybe he's living the dream but he neither looked, moved or sounded like Cliff.

What had been a brilliant even the previous year was sadly very second rate for me, all things have to come to an end, and in my view now that it's no longer Shadowmania and Bruce has bowed out it's time to call it a day.

If it goes ahead and you enjoyed it last year and are going again you have my best wishes and I truly hope you have a good day, but it's not for me any more.

The Rapiers, The Ryders and the UB Hank band are all excellent bands, but there also many other good bands from Europe such as :

"The Seaside Shadows" (Peter Korving), "The Red Strats" from Holland.
"Joeland Plus" from Switzerland.
"The Mustangs" from Finland (not sure the band is still active).
"Shotgun Ltd", "Guitar Express", "The Starsmen" from France.

Most of these bands have already played at events such as Shadowmania, Tilburg or Pipeline.

The choice is wide !
