I think Geronimo was recorded in the same session as Atlantis.

Correct, on 13th December, 1962.

While we take notice of statements by those who were there, memory does play tricks... When I was writing an article about the 'Shadows sound' in the 80s, Bruce insisted the band had never used white Strats! I had to send him photographs.

(If they hadn't had white Fenders, would they have ended up using red Burns? Just wondering...)

I think it is certainly true that some members remember things differently from others. Jet's list of who played what bass part on Out of The Shadows is not the same as Brian's! If I was asked what guitar I was using in(say) 1975, I'd have to say I don't know!

Ian this interesting snippet is a part of an interview done during Hanks last solo tour recorded backstage in Norwich.
The interview was done for the Dutch Cliff and Shadows fan club "Move It" and was published in the club magazine and on the "old" msn shad site.
I was there specially for the technical and guitar related questions, the two girls ask the private stuff, like whats your fav book or movie....or what would youve'done not being a prof muso...
The Atlantis/Burns part evolutes naturally in a Gretsch part and so on...
What i still can remember vividly was Hanks face and mood when he talked about the Gretsch publications on the shad site and a surten book..
He was not amused and he said "what anois me people don't know what they talking about, everything was different, amps where smaller then the production models...different components, strings guitars echo etc"
The interview is still owned by Move It and I'm not shure if it's allowed to be published again and surtenly not the complete recording...
A lot was hold back, because it was personal side talk between Hank and the intervieuwers....
But 90% of the technical info was published, on the old shadsite.
It was fun to do and especially the part after the interview, was for a fan and guitar geek...heavenly.
Walking on the stage between the equipment, jumping from the stage and watching the sound check etc ...
Cheers

I guess that artists of The Shadows' stature will feel that they have to give a definitive answer to a question rather than say "I can't remember" or "I don't know". With so much going on in their lives 50+ years ago I'd be amazed if they could remember anything with any degree of certainty. Equally most fans want to believe what their heroes tell them: "He was there, he must know". It's endlessly fascinating trying to identify which guitar was used on which song but in some cases we may never know...

Quite correct there! Often the lead guitar part on Ventures tracks was played by session musicians.
