Acoording to Wikipaedia, "My Grandfather's Clock" was a song written in 1876 by Henry Clay Work. Would this be the one I am looking for?

May be "Quartermaster's stores" is older but it's not known when it was composed...

In an old thread (Sorry I haven't worked out how to paste text on this new tablet, so can't give the URL)

Dates have been attributed as follow :

Un Sospero (A sigh) by Liszt 1848
Londonderry Air 1792
Hello Mr WAM (Mozart clarinet concerto) 1791
Mozart Forte (40th symphony) 1788
The Midnight Special

There's currently a programme available on the BBC TV iPlayer about the history of the song Danny Boy (The Londonderry Air, or, as some would have it, The London Derriere).

Thanks Brian for finding this. So it looks as if Mozart Forte is the oldest (1788) and a cracking good tune too !
Reckon I'll give this one a go - anyone got a backing track to spare ? :geek:

At The Duane Eddy Convention last Sunday (at Amersham), there was a video of Duane playing against a backdrop of various images of his records. There was one release of this song which was labelled London Derriere...
