Cavatina 2

Postby drakula63 » 16 May 2014, 12:26

Just an advance heads-up...

The Shadows are DUE to appear on next week's Top of the Pops 1979 on BBC Four (Thursday) with their second 'Cavatina' performance from 24th May. This is the one featuring Alan Jones wearing a very fetching tank-top (and I assume this is his first appearance on TOTP with the band).

If they are cut out of the 7.30pm 30-minute edition, then they will be on the full length (i.e. 40 mins) edition shown later at 01.40 in the morning).

I shall be watching...

So many of these TOTP shows are now blocked because of recent, and not so recent events. I have just checked who the presenter is going to be and it's Kid Jensen. Big sigh of relief!! I'll be watching too Chris! :D

Although it was obviously a solo-spot for Hank and rush-released to beat John Williams to the punch, I thought the Shads and their version of Cavatina were good. Liked the way Kid Jensen introduced them as the ‘house band’ – which was a nice nod to their current omnipresent status on the show. Shame we didn’t see much of Brian Bennett and a little too much of Alan Jones’ tank-top! I imagine this would have been the occasion that Elvis Costello went up to Hank and said ‘Everyone is asking for my autograph – but they think I’m YOU!’ Maybe it was the specs and the red Strat that did it? Speaking of which, looked like Chris Stein had borrowed Hank’s black Strat for Blondie’s performance of Sunday Girl.
