This is a tragedy both on a personal level for Brian and for history. His drums, particularly the silver sparkle Ludwigs, were every bit as important to the story of the Shadows as 34346. Then there are the photographs and scores, all recording an amazing, rich, varied career. My thoughts are with him at this moment.

I can't image how dreadful it must be to loose all those treasures and memories that way. We all feel for Brian.

Dear Brian (and Warren, too), There are no words that can really mend this situation or take away your grief. Money cannot replace what you have lost. I do, however, want to say that I hope you know how much your friends and fans love you. And we hope this loss will not take anything more away from you than it already has. Please try to stay strong, and please take good care of yourself. Your well being is more important than anything else in the world. There's only one Brian Bennett. And we love you, Brian.

Respectfully,
Donna

Irreplacable bit like an artist's studio going up in flames

I gather that Brian has now posted a picture on his facebook page.

I hope that he realises just how many people are genuinely concerned for him over this and wish him well.

A terrible thing to happen to such a genuinely nice man. I can't even begin to imagine how devastating it is.

What a dreadful thing to happen... Can't think of anything else to say...

Here, we've had a further example of the destruction a fire can cause - the Glasgow School of Art , one of the most iconic buildings in Glasgow, if not the whole of Scotland, was badly damaged by fire today. Apparently the library has suffered particularly badly, though the full extent of the damage has yet to be assessed. As far as I know, there were no casualties.

At a time like this no words can repair the damage done by the flames however it is all we have to offer. Angela and I are deeply saddened by your loss and pass on our best wishes. No amount of money from insurance companies can replace what is irreplaceable.

So sad to hear this. Not only the loss of deeply personal items but part of British musical history.
