In reference to my earlier post and another post (Richard Cowling);

I think that 'Summer Guitar' (which I believe was written by Hank and possibly Ben) would certainly be a good choice of track to release as a single!

Furthermore, and this is a long shot (certainly from well outside the penalty area!); could the BBC perhaps use it as the theme to their upcoming World Cup TV coverage? I say this for a couple of reasons;

1) It is a great tune, very instant, very catchy with a Spanish/latin feel to it.

2) Has anyone else noticed that Hank's current record company (DMG) is actually owned by the BBC.

Let's suggest it, shall we...?

Great idea Chris, it would make a great theme tune for the World Cup TV coverage. Anyone know who to contact?

Jim ;)

I think its a great album and can only grow on you over time,I think the clever arrangements caught a lot of fans off guard. Congrats to Hank and his team.

Well I've listened to it a lot over the last few days and totally agree that Summer Guitar would be a great world cup TV theme. I like most of it, but I feel that Summertime isn't the best arrangement I ever heard of that classic tune whilst Summertime Blues was never instrumental material. The only other one that does nothing for me is Message In A Bottle, but that's almost certainly because I can't stand Police or any of their work.

I wonder if it will grow, or fade? :)

I've got my copy and i'm playing it for the first time now (its on Message in a bottle), it will take a few listens to get into but the arrangements are spot on but i didn't think Summertime was great either but so far it's been good, a lot better than Guitar Man which seemed very bland.

I've been housebound for a few days and hadn't pre-ordered the album, so I've only heard about three tracks so far (ones which have been put on YouTube). I have to say, though, from what I've heard so far Hank's Strat sound is superb.

It's one of the brightest sounds that I think I've heard him use, but it's still organic and full whilst being more delicate than it has been in recent years. There's a slightly edgy side to his sound which tells me he's still using sharp picks; it adds to the brighness.

The standard single coil pickups sound better than the Kinmans. There's breath and life in the sound. The Kinmans were fat and clogged things up, making the guitar sound like a Strat with a cold. Whilst it's still his unmistakable modern sound, Hank's definitely taken a step towards the "vintage", most obviously evident in the echo.

He's using way more echo than he has in recent years, with longer delay times. But the special part is the echo tone. The Binsons and Rolands he used in the seventies through to the nineties were nice but they never came close to the distinctive Meazzi. The least said about the tone of the digital quads the better (taking nothing away from Charlie's superb echo patches). From what I've heard so far this album seems to be a cracking advertisement for the TVS3 - it's the first time since about 1963/64 that we've heard anything like a Meazzi echo tone from Hank Marvin.

Though the sound leans more towards the organic than we've heard for a very long time, some of Hank's playing is similar to that which we heard on the albums of the early nineties. It's like we've gone back twenty years at times. He's employing techniques I haven't heard him use since "Into the Light" and "Heartbeat". It's so good to hear him using his fresh approach with that exciting touch of aggression. It's also nice to hear Hank using a bit of overdrive now and again. I can already hear more enthusiasm in this new material than I heard on "Guitar Man". This seems to be a labour of love, a real long-term project, without the obvious dictation of a record company. Summer of '42 is one hell of an arrangement; I can't get enough of it.

I guess I've gotta actually get of the house and buy the album now! I don't remember being this excited about a new album release.

Don't get me wrong it had some wonderful tracks such as Summer House, Guitar Man and Nine million bicycles but the overall album seemed very much run of the mill and some tracks weren't really suited to his style, some even bordered on elevator music! It seemed more of a contract obligation album. I was disappointed when i heard it.
I'm already looking forward to his next album! :D
