It WAS indeed a BIG deal. I interviewed Bruce for that little feature. I can tell you all now that Bruce was very forthright, very fiery and very angry. He said some very harsh things indeed. Those of you who know Bruce also know how brutally frank amnd honest he can be. After the 'formal' part of the interview (which took place in the offices of a P R firm near Hammersmith) we chatted for about 20 minutes or so. I mentioned to Bruce that he had probably said quite a lot which he wouldn't want to appear in print. He seemed surprised. He simply smiled, clapped me on the shoulder and said : "No Rob. I meant it. All of it. You can print anything that I've said...anything......" He added more, which I am not going to divulge. 20 yrs or so ago now & Hank and Bruce patched up their differences enough to be onstsge together once again. Let's put it this way...I think that I had one eye on the future. Despite having 'Carte Blanche' from Bruce...I took a deliberate decision to omit quite a lot of what he said and I toned down much of what I did use. To be honest, I'm glad that I did. I will leave you all to draw your own conclusions.
PS: Yes, a shame that "An Evening With Bruce Welch" was cancelled
PPS I saw 3 shows on the first Hank / Brian tour and all three were sold out
