Hi Jim,

The very best of luck with the new line up of the band, pity Im so far away but I thoroughly enjoyed meeting, chatting and playing with Roger Cook at the Scarborough weekend, great bloke and an excellent guitarist!

All The Best, :D

Yes, Roger told me he'd played with some 'proper' bass players!!! Got me worried.

Hi Jim,

Dont worry mate, I've watched a few 'Shades' videos, excellent bass playing. I expect Roger was meaning Alan Jones :D ! I was cacking it when I had to do 'Riders In The Sky' right in front of him :o !

The Shades' videos that you've seen would've only had one current band member: Tony Dobson (rhythm). I know because I was playing lead in them!

Hi Martin,

Ah! Thanks for the clarification, I hadnt realised it was virtually a full new lineup, except for one member, this is what happens when you know the names but not the faces :? ! Why did you leave, Martin, the band is very accomplished, top class? I'll have to get on to Roger to post some video of the new line up asap  . I wish them every success.

Cheers

As Martin says, the videos are of the previous line-up - only Tony on Rhythm remains. We left the videos in place intentionally to give an idea of the repertoire and also to applaud the ex-members.

I just hope that those of us currently involved live up to the reputation of the others!!

The band was at a sort of crossroads. My main reason for leaving is that I live in north east Essex and the band is based in Kent - too much time and money in travelling...

Indeed Martin is correct - I can vouch for that because not only is he on them but I'm playing bass on (most of) them - thanks for the comment Piecrusty. And I would definitely have been pooing myself playing Ghost Riders in the Sky in front of Alan Jones!! In fact I had a few heart tremors playing it without him present!!

Best of luck to the new line up at Sidcup - v nice venue and phenomenal bass sound thanks to liberal carpeting, soft furnishings!!! Hi Martin by the way.
