It seems Jet's sunburst had a rosewood fingerboard as well. A late 1959+ then.

PS: Jet is playing without a plectrum in that dubbed publicity video. But did he do that live?

abstamaria wrote:It was probably the times, Peter. The Beatles were also asked to dress "respectable" a bit later. The Ventures on the other side of the pond also wore identical suits or clothes, and, surprisingly in this tropical country guitar bands then wore suits at parties. The period in which guitar bands became popular is sometimes called the "sweet" period, a reaction to the wild rock-and-roll era that preceded it and the US establishment's crackdown on the likes of Elvis and Chuck Berry. Everyone became clean cut until toward the mid-60s, when the music scene took another turn.
Sharp eyes, Ian.
I suppose that Hank was the least affluent, as Bruce and Jet already had high-end Fender guitars. Bruce especially with that Jazzmaster.

It was Jennings who gave them the matching red guitars around the time of the filming of 'The Young Ones'.
The design of the P Bass back then was always with a tort pickguard in the Fender catalogues for the UK and I still prefer the look, they gave a classy look to them. The white pickguards did appear later on the basses. The early ones were anodised, I don't like those at all.
