Not THAT quiet.

There was a big interview with Bruce in the Mail way back in the year 2000 - it included a photo of himself, his partner at the time and their daughter.

I could be wrong, but I interpret this to be an article about Bruce which uses "evergreen" file footage/archived quotes, rather than a current interview of Bruce. There is really nothing in the article to date it (aka, when precisely did they speak to Bruce), other than the reference to the reunion tours in the past tense, so this article could contain material that is a few years old, but would not pre-date the 50th Reunion Tour.

Newspapers are in business to sell papers, and there is nothing necessarily wrong with that. But, the title of the article (Whatever happened to BW) and the sub-heading about "...opens up about HBM, Cliff, The Beatles, etc." are a bit misleading.

There is an unreferenced (or unexplained) photo of Bruce with Albert Lee, which we know was from earlier this year at the birthday concert and the Buddy Holly guitar ceremony. That could easily have been used to tie in with the "whatever happened to..." theme, but they never mentioned it. They only said the name of what city Bruce lives in. So, I think the article pre-dates Albert's birthday concert.

As for "opening up about HBM, Cliff, and the Beatles" - those words got my attention, but it really wasn't discussed in this article. For example, saying they used to run into The Beatles quite often at Abbey Road Studios - that's interesting, but it's not really "opening up" about them. They have a quote in there about Hank living in Australia and doesn't like to work much (or something to that effect). Yet, he was just in the UK for two full weeks - and they didn't mention that in the article.

I think this article has no new material in it whatsoever. But if any good comes out of it, that's nice.

Well said Donna.

We have had years of back and forward arguments in the UK, concerning the "Freedom of the Press" ie their freedom to make up stories and make lots of cash!. But at least some of the news resembles the truth - when the media is subject to control over what they can print the result is 100% propaganda.

I have only recently read Scoop, a novel by Evelyn Waugh, written nearly 90 years ago which really gives the press a roasting! Not much new these days.

To put this particular item in context, it is a weekly feature (with Jet the subject several years ago) which covers a whole range of 'personalities' and fills about two-thirds of a page in the Saturday magazine which comes with the paper.

With respect to Donna - and without going into details - there are a couple of things in the feature which make me think it's not just a re-hash of old material. Perhaps the tagline is misleadsing - you're not going to get astounding insights in less than a page (including two photographs) especially when you have to explain to some readers who the individual is!

Despite having a journalist in the family, I can be as cynical as the next person, but in this case, I'm just glad to see a mention of the band in a major daily.
