I used to have one.

Well, not exactly the same; mine was a 1966 Gibson SJ-N ("Southern Jumbo - Natural"), made in the period when Gibson were using the Martin-type dreadnought shape for the SJ model. I bought it in 1979 for £80 (off a barman in Stratford upon Avon).

It looked like this (and had a typical mid-sixties pencil-slim neck):

A fabulous guitar. I sold it to a friend who had always wanted a Gibson flat-top.

That was a good article. I think the comments apply in many ways to the development and production of lots of western countries. Thank goodness we seem to have many luthiers carrying on the great craft of building guitars. Like most things with high demand coupled with pricing pressures they have gone east.

This is a model that has been through a bewildering number of style and name changes, including the abbreviated SJ and Country & Western nomenclatures (not too sure of the chronology), and your 1979 purchase certainly seems to have represented a great deal.

I purchased the Lauren Sheehan album "The Light Still Burns" nice album. Each one of the tracks is performed on a different Banner guitar. There is printed leaflet including picture and description of each of the guitars employed. The photos will not post well on this site. Anyone interested in acoustic Banner Gibsons it would be worthwhile buying the album. Wonderful to see these instruments

Nice album. Very traditional American style album. Nicely played and produced. Excellent recording with a 40s vibe. Played it a few times now
