Hank Marvin Squier Strat

Postby eventrygve » 28 Jun 2014, 19:27

Hello Shadsfriend!
Today I was so lucky that I managed to buy a Hank Marvin Squier Stratocaster. The seller told me that the actual guitar was from 1991, which seems ok regarding when the modell was introduced. But the numbrs on the neck tells me that the guitar was produced in Japan i 1985/86. The number is: C006988. Anyone with some information about this guitar?

Those Fender Lace Sensor pickkups were not fitted to the 1991 HBM Squier Strat, someone has been changing stuff around. The headstock is a 1991 as fitted to that model.

Hi,
I would ignore the serial number for the moment.
There are better ways to date your guitar than the serial number, though it is a useful part of the process sometimes.
My advice is to remove the neck and look for a stamped or pencilled date. Then lift the pickguard and look at the controls. If they have not been changed they have date codes on them which will help.
If you want to return the guitar to original I may have a set of Fender Japan pickups from that model coming into my possession soon. If you just want to replace the Laces with something more accurate go with Fender Custom Shop 54s or Kinman.
Looks like a nice clean example.
Best regards.

Hi Even
Are you sure the serial no starts with a C ?
Some very early examples I have seen selling on E Bay start with a G from around late91/early 92
Could the number marking have been rubbed or altered?
