Looking from the picture of the neck marking other than a L stamp, there does not appear to be
evidence of any date mark?
I am pretty sure my local emporium at the time first stocked the model around late autumn 1992
as they always had latest promotions/offers in the window, and this guitar certainly was an eye catcher
in the display at that time!!!
Although retailing at £249, I shopped around to get one at £215 plus an amp and free bad advice!!!
Suits you Sir!!!

Mike

p.s. can anyone confirm buying one in 1991 or early1992?

Yes Mike, I bought my 'K' prefixed (1990-1991) example new in early to mid 1992 priced at £199 from Axe Music's Bury St. Edmunds shop. I part-exchanged a Japanese made Aria 335 style in the deal and just had to pay £100 in all!

Mike,
I bought my K-prefix Squier HBM Strat in 1992 for £199 at Crane's, Cardiff.
Still have it.
And as well as the transfer signature on the headstock, I have a real signature by The Man Himself on the pickguard.

I never considered buying one of either sort, but from memory, either the Squier or the later Fander Japan HBM model had a pronounced V-shape to the neck. Does that apply here?

Jim,
The Squier Marvins I think mostly C shaped . Certainly found it quite comfortable to suit an absolute beginner at the time!!!
Now actually prefer 9.5 flatter radius fingerboards in my senior moment years!!!

I own the very 1st Hank Marvin Squire dated 1988. It's a prototype of the original Squire run of the 1990's.

I had one in 1992 and gigged with it for a while. I liked the feel of the neck on it but I had intonation problems with the low E. It was screwed back as far as it would go but the note on the 12th fret was still slightly sharp. The pickup switch was faulty after a couple of months and the replacement one went the same.
Everyone kept saying to me on gigs, ''Use your other one.'' which was a 1989 USA standard Strat. ''That one sounds a lot better.''
I liked playing the HM Squier Strat but I traded it in after a few months for a USA Standard Telecaster which I still have.

Looking at the 'Fender Book' by Paul Day (1998 edition), there is a photo of a 'Fender' Hank Marvin Signature Strat dated as 1990. It has Gold hardware & Lace sensor active pickups. It states that it was only produced in very small quantities, & predates the first official Europe-only model which was started in 1993.

Necks are notoriously dicey for dating a guitar. Fender tended to store the necks which were later added to their respective bodies in no sort of chronological order.
