Scarborough Gala Weekend

Postby roninnes » 16 Jun 2014, 11:57

Well another year and another Gala has been and gone. Angela and I could only visit on Saturday however we were, as always, made very welcome and it was so nice to meet friends you don't see very often.
My thanks go out to Ian and Linda and everyone involved in putting the effort into organising a really enjoyable day. I do like the new format of the bands on in the afternoon, sort of concert style, freeing up the morning to everything else. A special thank you to Jeff for putting his drum kit up for Friday night and the weekend. Nice kit sir.
Now to catch up on some sleep.

Hear hear Ron, well said!

I hope everyone who came enjoyed themselves and has got back safely. A fabulous weekend, made possible by Ian & Linda Harper and their team, massive thanks to them for all their hard work, a brilliant show. I hope that if you have photos/video we can post them on this thread. Myself and The Ghostriders had a great time and all the bands and players were excellent. Great to make new friends and put names to faces on this site. Some of the excellent guitarists I met, in no particular order; Roger Alcock, Roger Cook, Bob Withrington (Mr Al fayed!), Ian McCutcheon, Terry Carter, Tony Hoffman, Glynn Liffley, 'Glasgow' Eddy, Terry Devon, many others I can't recall all the names. Great to meet Gordon Wells, one of the masterminds behind the Memorial Hall do at Pickering on the friday as well as a big train buff like myself.

Thanks for the warm induction to the bassists Dept, again some superb players; Ian Cross, Iain Purdon, Luigi Chapperelli, great to see Chris Jarvis on such good form and lastly my personal hero/guru, Mr Alan Jones, with whom I shared several pints and a good natter on Saturday night. I didn't get all the names but some great guys pounding the skins; Ron of course, Rockin John Loftus, Martin Verrill, Clive Dee and others.

Apologies if I have missed anyone out or misspelled your name. In all a great event, please remember to post your pics/video etc on here. Im 'Knackered' so am off to lie down for a week!

I must echo Marks comments about the Gala. What a pleasant, well organised mix of BT'ers, ad lib bands and bands doing sets.
Lovely to see Angela Innes and Chris Jarvis, we all wish them well, as always rock n roll is the best therapy.
Yes, Mark, it was a feast for bass players and we need to add your name to the list, having Alan Jones for 2 days topped it all.
Great to see Legend with red Fenders, playing/singing some early Cliff and Shads material.
Being Italian I'm always reasonable and unbiased, Legend were superb, but Hoffers was amazing.
Must say a huge thanks to Linda and Ian, all the hard working glamorous ladies and gentlemen who made it a Gala to remember.
Personal thanks to Jeff (hope spelling is right) our drummer, never played with us until we did our set on Sunday, a real pro, great fun to play with and much appreciated.
You can't get better at thrice the price !

Love and thanks to all, Luigi

Hi Ian, Linda & all the Production Team,

This was our first to your Gala Weekend and, indeed, to Scarborough itself. What a very enjoyable time we had meeting up with some old friends and making many new ones. Thank you Linda for getting Charlotte sorted out at the Hospital. Thankfully no broken bones but a badly torn arm muscle.

Remember Folks, you will all receive an equally warm welcome at the Surrey Shadows Club if you are ever down our way.

Cheers,

Bob & Charlotte

Well the Scarborough Gala was really enjoyed by everyone there.

Ian, Linda, Kevin and the team have it organised perfectly and as Ron Innes said, the new idea of have the groups on later in the event worked out really well.

It's a long haul coming up from the South West but the four of us that came up had a great time there.

Legend enjoyed playing on Sunday and fingers-crossed we'll be playing again next year on the Saturday.
We enjoy the 'Fender' numbers and was asked by Ian to play some hits and vocals.
We'll be performing a similar set on Sunday at the Tyneside Gala. See you there.

Hi all,
Thank you for your kind remarks. It was good to catch up with all our friends and meet some new ones too. Hope Charlotte is going on well with her arm Bob and resting it.
The Sat fish and chips went down superbly as it usually does and everyone enjoyed themselves. Thank you to all who came and played, the bands, the drummers and guitarists and those who came simply to watch and listen. See you all next year or next month at our club meeting on the 6th July at the Ambassador as usual.
Cheers Linda.

Hi Linda,

Thanks for asking about Charlotte who is still waiting for an MIR scan to see if she needs a small operation to repair the torn muscle in her upper arm. She is still unable to drive, which is a bit frustrating.

Could you please remind me of the name of the Left Handed Lead Guitarist at the Gala, as I promised him some information on Burns Guitars. I did send you a PM message earlier on this.

Cheers,

Bob

A bit late, but what a good weekend - good music and good company.
