They became the 5 dimensions when Rod joined them. Louis went on to play with Armageddon and Rennaisance. He sometimes plays together with former Yardbirds member. The second picture was 1963 on the Scotland tour.

My mate Tony White was the drummer with The Moontrekkers (Night of the Vampire) and when they had their audition with Joe Meek in 1960 or thereabouts, Rod Stewart was their singer.
After the audition Joe said "I'll take you on but only if you get rid of that f***ing awful singer! I'll record you as an instrumental group!"

Yes I have heard that story before. Rod would have only been 15 so his voice may not have broken properly and may have sounded a bit gruff !
Incidentally I agree with Keith that that guy does look like Dave Clarke. I think the guitar is a 330 but unusually has block inlays most of the ones I have seen from that era have dot. I'm sure JimN will advise on the actual facts.

Rod Stewart maybe featured on harmonica on an impressive R&B single by Jimmy Powell/ Dimensions from 1964
That's Allright/ I'm Looking for a Woman (Pye 7N15663)

I think Jeff Becks first album was Beck Ola and featured a green apple on the cover. Rod Stewart was on that album not sure where he went after that.

Repaired and re-sized version of the photo:

The centre guitar is indeed a Gibson ES-330TD.

Earliest versions (1959) had dot fret position markers and black plastic dog-ear pickup covers.

The dots were replaced by small block markers and the pickup covers were updated to metal (nickel-plated) ones from about 1962 onward. This example, therefore, appears to be a 1961/1962 transition model with the newer block markers and the original plastic covers.

The block markers look better and so do the later pickups, IMHO.

Thanks for that Jim knew you would have the answer. In 63/64 my friend got a 330 in red and it had chrome covers. Another friend broke the neck on his 345 and sold me his sunburst 330 with black covers for £50 to cover repair costs. Wish I had kept it. It was a good guitar. But there we go guess we all have some regrets
