A lot of the tracks being discussed, and listed by the BBC and in newspapers, are not riffs at all - just songs.

Waterloo Sunset, Apache, That'll Be The Day, etc etc - good songs, but not guitar riffs.

I remember someone on a BBC program discussing the difference between licks and riffs was quite interesting.

Peter Gunn is the one that sticks in the mind from when I first took an interest in guitar music. It's menacing, melodic and memorable, as well as having longevity. 8-)
