Yes I think you are being reasonable, why should others think they can just pick your guitar no matter where it is left, I would never ever dream of touching anyone's Guitar without asking first.......I had a instance at our club a while back when two people opened my guitar case and were touching my guitar  I went mad and really went for them.......When I told a well known member on here about it he said "They were out of order, it's like someone putting their hand down your wife's knickers"............There are a few players I know who never ever take care with their own guitars let a lone yours........

Thanks for your support Derek its nice to know theres another ME out there. The late Roger Dean (who i had the pleasure to know) once said that whilst he was waiting to go on stage one night Jimi Hendrix approached him & attempted to pick up one of Rogers guitars. Roger in no uncertain terms told him not to do so as he didnt like his guitars touched by anybody....Hendrix slouched off.

I have absolutely no problem with other people picking up any of my guitars, even the most expensive ones. In fact I encourage other guitarists to try them because part of the pleasure of owning a nice instrument is sharing the playing experience with others. Eight of my guitars hang on the wall of my home office and the others are on stands. All ready for action, just pick up and play. Never had a problem.

Having said that, I think Derek's experience is a different thing entirely and I, too, would not be happy with people simply helping themselves to my gear without asking!

it depends on the person, when i take my guitars to shads clubs most members that i know or talk to id have no issue with letting them use my guitar etc, the only time i have had a problem was at a jam night when i guy got up to play and didnt have a guitar, i lent him my strat and when he finished he leaned it against the amp and walked away and as he did it fell over (there was a stand sitting next to the amp!!)
