Couldn't agree more Peter, Charlie , for me, has always been 'the man '. He sussed it in the first place before anyone else and I have the utmost respect for him.

As Ecca has said Charlie was the first to get these echo's sorted & put into a box that people could just go & buy & plug in.
For that he will always be remembered & respected (at least by me)

The problem with this new echo system I can see is only the protracted gestation period.
Currently 4 years as I understand it + whatever time Charlie spent preparing things initially.

Other people (noteable Piet with his Etap series) have brought updated echo systems to market that are very accurate & with the Quads starting to fail now due to old age & most people not really accepting the Zoom models as the current solution.................is there a volume market for a new system at around £600 ?...............I really don't know.

It will sell of course with Charlie's name on it, I do hope it does well for the man though 8-)

Would I buy it for £600 ?.............. no. ........would I buy it for say £199 ? ......yes............ I would buy that "blind" at that price because of the man who's behind it.

Roll on Xmas when it will hopefully be available

Dick.

It isn't a case of anyone being 'lukewarm' towards Charlie, it's a case of moving on. Hank has and for the better. Had the Echomatic from ESE been available back then, there would have been no need for me to go to the expense of the EFTP option, I do know and understand how machines work and can hear the different taps and would have done OK thanks.
The thing was, Charlie recognised the Alesis machines would do what they did and acted upon it before anyone else. Truth is, I was never convinced it was the magic bullet, same as the amp.Through the Alesis machines there was always a lack of character in the sound. There was a lot of brain washing going on back then and people went to great lengths to convince me that the old Vox amps weren't the way to achieve the sound and all the time it appears they were exactly that. If I sound fed up about it, it's probably because I am, it cost me a lot of unnecessary expense. I wish Charlie well with his new product, but doubt if I will need one. If it sounds as good as what I've got here, he'll have cracked it. :)

I'm happy with my MagicStomp + EFTP, can't really fault it. As for going for a new model? I probably wouldn't even if my MS failed.
I don't see as much enthusiasm any more as, sorry to say, those with the Shads passion start popping off. :(

I have a Korg AX3000g into which I've programmed some (pretty abysmal) Hank approximations, :!: yet an awful lot of people I play to seem to think it sounds 'just right'. At least 90% of Joe Public can't tell the difference. :?
There again, if I had some spare cash burning a hole in my pocket I just might be persuaded ;)

Dave,
What you say when expressing your personal opinions has to be accepted as the way you see things, the same as any other members however with regard to Alesis units as far as I know Hank's management still keeps his Q20's on stand by here in the UK so they can't be that far off the mark.
Eric Snowball was the Binson( + others) sales & repair man for years probably since the 60's but personally I think that if the vintage "echo" market had not become so popular and commercially viable again mainly because of the likes of EFTP then I don't think he would have bothered manufacturing the ESE range.
However it has to be said that when he did the outcome was very good.
You said something like.... Charlie recognised the Alesis machines would do what they did and acted upon it before anyone else whilst that maybe true the Alesis units did not program themselves regardless of what they were capable of and the years of work Charlie put into EFTP must not go unappreciated.
I understand that one of the messages in answer to my original post has been reported as unacceptable by another member which I find interesting.
As for the brainwashing well I'm not even going to go there so as not to cause any embarrassment to somebody influentcial on this site.
So glad you got over your recent illness and are back to your old self.

I acknowledge Charlie's work and respect it for what it was, though I take it that Alan Jackson doesn't deserve any of the credit ?
You are of course right, I personally don't want any further embarrassment.
Also thanks for your concern over my illness, but I'm not even 25% over it yet so best not make assumptions.

Dave,
I'm not in a position to comment re Alan Jackson, as far as I know he was and still is a friend of Charlie but I'm not aware of to what extent Alan's help affected Charlie's work either then or now. Maybe you have some info but I would respectfully suggest that the matter is not that important in the scheme of things relating to this thread and a matter for Alan & Charlie not us or public debate.
As far as your illness is concerned I made that comment in good faith the same as I have in at least 2 emails to you since you became ill, maybe you never got them for whatever reason but as far as I know they remain unanswered . I had also asked Daniel to pass on my regards whether he did that or not I don't know..but you are right one should not make assumptions but for the record I hope your 25% recovery rapidy reaches 100%.

Fair comment Peter regarding Alan, but he was in the chain at the beginning.
I don't recall any emails from you but wholeheartedly apologise if I did appear to ignore them. I'll check my mailbox because if they arrived they will still be there.
It always looks worse than what it sounds when someone (me) tries to put an opinion forward, I was just saying how it is.
Regarding the comment that drew the complaint, my take on that is that it's not Charlie he's digging at, but the fact that there's yet another new echo coming out. There have been a few lately.
Thank you for your good wishes over my health, but it's nowhere near over yet. :)

Despondent no not a bit thanks anyway, I guess I'm just trying to do the right thing as Charlie has no ties with this site.
The approx. price and other details of interest are on Charlie's site - Charlie Hall & friends and it would appear interest is booming.
I believe the samples metioned are the old ones something like 3 yrs old now, things have improved a lot since then and I understand that new ones will be posted in due course.
Seems to me a pity that the man who first brought the best accurate Shadows echoes all together for us all in one box now appears to receive a luke warm reception over here irrespective of what gear is flavour of the month. No matter what you use now we all owe Charlie a huge amount of respect and thanks.
My only regret is that I'm no longer part of EFTP or his current business.

Hear, Hear. I still have my Q2 based EFTP and it continues to work perfectly after 14 years, or thereabouts. I might be interested in this new unit when it is released but as I am now a pensioner and only play at home for pleasure I will have to look very hard at the financial situation as and when. I hope the new unit is a great success.
