Monty wrote:I left out '21 Today' (even tho' I have it) as it's o.k. but not really that essential - likewise 'When in Spain' etc

'Me Oh My' (a vocal track) is originally on 'Aladdin' (1964) a soundtrack or 'theatre score' album with a fair amount of non Shads tracks on it... it's also on 'The Shadows Vocals' compilation which is 100% Shadows material (including a few rarer early vocal tracks 'pre-Apache' too)

'Rarities is half Shads & half Hank (solo) while that 'Rarities 2': 'Everything of Value' (not quite !) gathered up most of the other rare material - both these compilations are important too

MFP's 'Rock on With Cliff Richard' compilation is all Cliff/Shadows early tracks too & well worth grabbing, while '32 minutes...' was re-issued in stereo only as; 'It'll Be Me' both on Regal Starline then on the yellow MFP 'Sounds Superb' label - MFP later paired it up with stereo 'Listen To Cliff' (which is now quite rare in stereo as the CD releases of it are in mono) as a 2LP set.

The often dismissed budget MFP label has given us alot of important re-issues & compilations of many top artists.

The "Listen To Cliff!" album has been issued on CD in its true stereo mix. Back in 1992, the stereo issue of "Listen To Cliff!" was released on an EMI double CD, together with the true stereo mix of the "21 Today" album. However, these issues were issued just before the days of digital remastering of original analogue master tapes, so the sound is quite muddy, compared to the 1998 digitally remastered mono CD issues of these albums. In 1997, some tracks from the "Listen To Cliff!" and "21 Today" albums were issued in their true stereo mixes and digitally remastered on the 4 CD (12" sized) box set "The Rock 'N' Roll Years 1958-1963".

I think '21 Today' has some great Shads' tracks on it, notably Tough Enough and Forty Days. I think Tough Enough is one of the best rockers that Cliff and The Shads have recorded.

I agree....add to those songs "Without you" & "the night is so lonely " not forgetting the Shads version of " Happy Birthday" & you have an album worth owning.

As i mentioned before not really a Cliff fan but i really like 'The time in between' which sadly was not a big hit when it was released. I love Hank's guitar passages on it.

I have a two-fer of "Me and My Shadows / Listen To Cliff" and CD says both albums are in stereo.
EMI 7243 5 34700 2 9 - issued 2001.

However Listen To Cliff sounds like it's mono to my ears.

Why was this not in stereo as well on this release ??
