The Shadows recordings with Mesa Boogie ?

Postby dave robinson » 15 Sep 2014, 12:20

Can anyone tell me if The Shadows made recordings using their Mesa Boogie amps, they used them for quite a while on stage. :)

Hi Dave, "Guardian Angel" "Reflection","Simply Shadows","Moonlight Shadows" features the MK2c with the exception of "At their very best" being an AC30, I heard "whiter shade of pale" and "Memory"was a fender twin that Hank had in his own studio at the time. Gary

Great stuff thanks Gary. :)
I read the back of 'At their very best' regarding the Vox.

Hi Dave,on some of the studio stuff in the 80s,the roland 301 outputs went to 2 boogies, one with reverb, the other with echo so they could be blended post mix. "Liverpool Empire" is an example. GARY

Interesting, I'll ask Dick Plant about this, as I think he may have recorded them. I find it interesting that they got a Vox amp in for the 'Shadows At Their Very Best' session. :)

Just heard back from Dick and he does remember the Boogie (Hank's) being used on some of those eighties albums, also said he never used compression as Hank didn't care for it. :)

Thanks Dave,I didnt think Hank would use compression as a tone shaper but I hear heaps of it on 80s stuff, songs like Life in the Jungle,How do I love thee for example and nearly everything on" Reflection". maybe its a mastering thing. Gary

On the overall track maybe, but not directly on the lead guitar. I don't want to bother Dick again tonight as he's out with his wife, but I'll get to know later when we are chatting next. :)
