The enjoyment of the music and taking part is paramount !
I think for me it was because that early sound was so different and head turning, I had a desire to want to emulate it so that I heard it every time we played, so anything that didn't match it became unacceptable to my ears, simply because it didn't hold the same excitment. There's nothing wrong with wanting to get as close as possible but one has to realise that Hank's contribution was massive in his interpretation of the material he was playing and indeed a lot of people have all the right gear but lack that 'touch' to make it fit into place. I blame myself for being mis-led at the turn of the millennium by people that thought they knew what they were talking about. When I listen back to my work before that point, I'm amazed that I had the sound already and foolishly spent a lot of money and lost it. No worries though now, all of that has been kicked into touch and it's back, at very little cost in comparison. I'm once again enjoying my music and will be happy to help anyone achieve similar satisfaction where possible.
