LP 'Guitar Syndicate' - Hank Marvin interview

Postby UlrichS » 25 Sep 2014, 23:09

Just discovered a Hank Marvin interview about his LP 'Guitar Syndicate' from 1977. Some interesting points regarding choice of tracks and instrumentation.
(As printed in the Dutch Shadows Fan Club news flash and taken from "Music Talk" EMI Records Weekly News Magazine no. 122, 28th October 1977)

Best wishes,

Ulrich

Thanks Ulrich.

The Hank Marvin Guitar Syndicate has always been one of my favourite albums. It really is long overdue a decent CD release. The tracks written by Marvin/Bennett and Hawkshaw are amongst the best on the album, in my opinion, and New Earth (part 1, I think) was sampled by Jay-Z.

A marvellous album which everyone should have in their collection.

Thank you so much, Ulrich - it was great to read this interview. I'd read the "Peter Vince's car..." story (probably from Stuart D or Jim N on this site) but had never heard Hank talking in detail about the album as a whole. When I first bought it in the early 80s I remember being a bit disappointed - thinking it was a bit muzak-y, but now I love it!

It would be great if Hank could try something like this in a modern setting (perhaps roping in Clapton or Gilmour!) he did mention some years ago he was thinking about it, he could do a guitar orchestra, like Paul McCartney did with Wings years ago,

Thank you Ulrich.

"New Earth" has long been a favourite of mine.

Wherever you heard it from, it certainly wasn't from me!

The story is as new to me as anyone else. I expect it will have been Stuart.
