I know we spoke a lot about mentioning items listed on eBay, well I noticed this one and couldn't resist:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Designer-Black-To ... 3a5558664d

It's the "USED" by Simon Cowell bit that worries me.
I wonder if being "USED" makes it "second hand" and what they pack it in when they send it through the post?

Barry,

Can you explain how you happened to find this listing - clearly nothing to do with guitars, amplifiers, echo chambers, The Shadows ...er...er..

Interesting well argued explanation will no doubt follow ......

Hi Bob,

Believe it or not, I typed in "black paper roll", I was looking for a roll of black photographic backdrop paper. These are a bit bigger than a toilet roll being about 2 metres wide by about 15 metres long.

Cheers

I'm with Alan Bakewell!

If I see something I want, I keep quiet about it!

If it's not a rude question how much did the Bruce book go for,

I say this because Amazon had copies for sale a couple of weeks ago
for £24-95 + P+P!

The most expensive one on Amazon was £169-00 from another dealer!

Mine came the Amazon route last year, just in time to get it Signed at Shadowmania!

I have seen a number of posts on these web pages over the years and known immediately that I'm unlikely to get a bargain if I were interested. On the original web site I did give the members the heads up if I were selling an item on ebay, but that was rare as I only sold a few items - The Shadows tapes (went to a very respected home - one of The Shadows in fact!) plus a zoom programmed pedal.

If there's anything of real interest I NOW leave it to the last few seconds to bid - to my pre-agreed maximum. If I get it alls well if not then it was obviously worth more to someone else than it's worth to me.

I learnt this the hard way many years ago when I was looking for a vintage vox amp - when I got carried away in the bidding process. Fortunately the late John Harris who was going to restore the amp for me, gave me an extensive breakdown report of the faults which weren't mentioned in the add. Armed with this report I approached the seller directly - a reputable music shop and got a significant refund outside of ebay to pay for the faults to be corrected - a lucky break.

So having learnt this lesson I now bid where possible as late as possible. If I know that I won't be arround when the bidding closes I take the risk and place my maximum bid - which has on some occassions been successful. I've tried those snipping programmes in the past but you still couldn't guarantee success - several times the item has sold for less than my max bid so I gave that route up. Maybe there are more reliable programmes available now but I don't buy that much on ebay that falls into the must have category. My last purchase in the musical instrument line was a Bb Silver Cornet!

Continue to watch items that are listed. I spotted a Q20 starting at £10 and after a day or two, it was climbing into the £'00's. One evening, I was looking at my eBay and noticed that the seller had ended the listing :( although I continued to search and lo and behold, it appeared again as a Buy It Now (just listed within seconds) at £310 :D which I bought. Just received it today and as it's been in rack most of it's life, it looks good and I'll now get Charlie's programs into it and see what it sounds like.

Hi Alan,

You got a good buy then Alan, I wonder why the buyer ended the listing?

Still it worked out o.k. for you!

One night I was looking at Trem Blocks on ebay, I clicked on one
"Japanese Steel Trem Block - Buy it now £12.00" it wasn't until after I
moved off the page it sunk in what it was, I immediately went back
and it was sold!!! :( :(

Never Mind!

Another one was the original UB Hank Cd's and Shadows workout CD's,

I saw them listed as starting at 99p, I miised the first one but I got the
rest of the UB Hanks for 4.99 each followed by a couple of Shadows Workout.

Then someone started bidding against me, I got carried away on the first one
and paid £10.50 for it, then I thought "Nuts to this If I can't have them then someone
else can pay for them! So I bid the rest up to £10.00, the person who beat me
got the rest for £10.50 each!

Alan,

That's how I got my Q20s, but mine came from the US so I had the dreaded import tax to pay. This was sometime after I'd got one of the last Q2s from EFTP. I swopped it for the patches to be loaded onto my first Q20 and when I got the spare Q20 I visited Charlie and watched him instal the patches etc. and sort out an incompatibility I was having with my Vox Valvetronix and the Q20 - needed another special EFTP patch cable for the stereo signals from the Q20 into the Vox. You've done well there Alan. I still favour the Q20s even though I've got the Yamaha pedal. I know that Hank now favours the TVS, and by all accounts it does the business but at quite a cost!

I thought you'd already had either a Q2 or Q20 before?
