shadows gig date

Postby sixstringsid » 03 Oct 2014, 21:54

my dad took me to watch the shadows in the mid to late 70's at the liverpool empire, i'm thinking it was 1977, a year either side at the most but i can't find the exact date, does anybody have any idea what the date would have been?

Hi Sydney,

According to my ancient copy of The Shadows by George Geddes, the boys played the Liverpool Empire on 15th May 1977. The aforementioned publication only goes up to 31-10-1981.

Kindest regards

Wow. With a certain Mr Francis Monkman on keyboards. I'd have loved to have seen that.

i remember the excitement of going but don't remember much of the gig itself, I was only 8 years old at the time, wish I could remember more about it.

surprised I couldn't find the exact date on google, i'm usually ok at finding stuff.

I did.

I was there that night.

Hank made a fantastic mistake on The Savage, hitting the fifteenth note of the middle eight as an F instead of an E. Bruce shouted something across the stage at him. Every guitarist in the audience (and there were many) relaxed, realising that Hank is human after all.

They also played a single chorus of Peace Pipe, a tune not often played on stage.

and the echo would have been wrong for the older numbers!

maybe I could go to a hypnotist, put me under and let me re-live it.
