Burns Ernst on You Tube

Postby barryg » 07 Oct 2014, 10:43

If you look at The Shadows music or guitar instrumental music on You Tube there's a fair chance you will have come across a player who goes under the name of Burns Ernst. I met Ernst at the German Shadows Convention at Verden last weekend and he was telling me he has 530 videos on You Tube and he's had over 11Million hits. He plays all types of Guitar instrumentals and he learns the tune and records it then moves on to the next tune. It takes time to play and record these tunes but he says he's retired and has an understanding wife.

If you're looking for a demo of a tune Ernst has probably played it and posted it on you tube so he's a good source for viewing and even learning from his videos.

Have you seen any of his videos?

Derek,

He said to me that he gets so many e mails every day and requests for BT's and Tabs that he can't reply to them all as he doesn't have time. He learns the tunes by ear and doesn't read music or use tabs so he doesn't have them to pass on anyway. With so many videos on You Tube I can understand why he gets overwhelmed with requests for BT's and tabs and that's the price of his fame.
He's a very nice guy to talk to.

As I've told many people, I very often take a look at BurnsErnst on YouTube when learning a new tune to get a guide to positional play and pick up setting. He is a very relaxed and highly talented player.

Cheers to you BurnsErnst for your help.

I once asked him where he got the BT for a Ventures song he performed and he told me he had used Audition to clear out the lead and that was it. He's either an extremely quick learner or spends a very long time learning songs because his renditions are right on the ball.

It is sometimes possible to use the original track and remove, or reduce the effect of the lead guitar and then play using that track as a backing track.

Ernst used to pay guitar in his younger days and then stopped playing until the BT's like the UB Hank tracks became available in the 1990's. He learns the track by ear then records it and puts it on YT then moves on to the next tune. Yes he's a good player and he's recorded so many tunes to a good standard.

Been watching his vids since he started posting them about 10 years ago. From his posts the links on YouTube take you to a lot of other guys, all over the world, doing the same thing. He is an inspiration. One of the many positive influences of the net.

Kindest regards

When we chatted in Verden he told me after watching my version of This Ol' House he was going to go back and learn it. I can't believe he has not played it already. He is such a Youtube guitar star and such a nice guy. It will be amazing if he plays my version of an instrumental. Zoe.
