A Shadows concert — or part of it — was recorded for Dutch television in 1980. It was aired in Finland by the Finnish BBC (YLE) at the beginning of May the same year. I recorded it on a VHS tape and when I bought a Pioneer television tuner and DVD recorder in 2003, I transferred the 30-minute programme on to a DVD. As I didn't have a hi-fi VCR in those days, and I'm not even certain it had been invented in 1980, the quality of both the video and the sound is rather poor.
The credit titles say it was done by Veronica Omroep Organisatie, or something close to that. I'm not sure because the picture is very blurred. George Ford is on bass guitar. Bruce has a white guitar while Hank's is black — a Burns, I think, but I'm not sure. I'm not a guitar expert.
There's a lot of banter.
Bruce to the audience: "Are You happy tonight? We'll soon change that."
Hank: "Who would like to hear Wonderful Land? Will you put the record on, please?"
A 10-year-old girl comes on stage and gives flowers to the members of the band. Hank to the girl: "Are you married?"
The music:
1. The Frightened City
2. Shadoogie
3. Parisienne Walkways
4. Let Me Be the One
5. Wonderful Land
6. Cavatina
'7. Apache
8. FBI
I don't watch this programme very often because of its poor quality.
