There are a few "bootleg" DVDs around, but the quality isn't generally very good...

Ryan wrote:I have a dvd of Hank Marvin, playing with his son and Brian May's son on the drums, called 'Hank Plays Live' filmed live in concert at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. Cliff Richard made a guest appearance, to sing 'Move It'.
I just had a look to see when it was recorded but can't seem to find it on the cover or dvd, looks to me like it could be late 90's. The DVD came out in 2004, so it can't be any later than this.
Cheers

I don't think Peter May is Brian's son!

Not trying to be too much of a train spotter, but who was the engineer?

A few years ago I have seen some at an international meeting in Holland which were for sale openly, but you can find many clips from the early years on the net, download them and make your own DVD.

That's true, but the thing is though, the digital resolution of the majority of those clips on YouTube and elsewhere is far too low (due to up- and download speed restrictions) to be able to produce an acceptable view on a computer monitor/laptop/tablet, let alone a domestic LCD/LED television. Better is to try and find collectors who own copies on highter resolution DVD's or (even better) the analogue videotapes owned by fans (more often than not a couple of generations removed from the original source, but better than having nothing) of the clips.

The main problem is that most of those clips come from UK television which at this time was in B&W 405 lines, HD TV was still a long way to come !

A Shadows concert — or part of it — was recorded for Dutch television in 1980. It was aired in Finland by the Finnish BBC (YLE) at the beginning of May the same year. I recorded it on a VHS tape and when I bought a Pioneer television tuner and DVD recorder in 2003, I transferred the 30-minute programme on to a DVD. As I didn't have a hi-fi VCR in those days, and I'm not even certain it had been invented in 1980, the quality of both the video and the sound is rather poor.

The credit titles say it was done by Veronica Omroep Organisatie, or something close to that. I'm not sure because the picture is very blurred. George Ford is on bass guitar. Bruce has a white guitar while Hank's is black — a Burns, I think, but I'm not sure. I'm not a guitar expert.

There's a lot of banter.
Bruce to the audience: "Are You happy tonight? We'll soon change that."
Hank: "Who would like to hear Wonderful Land? Will you put the record on, please?"

A 10-year-old girl comes on stage and gives flowers to the members of the band. Hank to the girl: "Are you married?"

The music:
1. The Frightened City
2. Shadoogie
3. Parisienne Walkways
4. Let Me Be the One
5. Wonderful Land
6. Cavatina
'7. Apache
8. FBI

I don't watch this programme very often because of its poor quality.
