Surely someone must have thought of filming an entire concert in the early days - even if it was private footage by the Shads themselves

It wasn't so easy at this time to film a whole concert. A movie camera only had a few minutes running time with a film reel, and there was not yet portable video recorders.

People have kindly listed Shads albums and Cliff and Shads albums - but what about concert vids and dvd's?

I loved the 2009 reunion and dvd as it gave me a chance to see how they locked together as a band. Previous reunion shows weren't so extensive as far as I can see - this show really seemed to be their best :) you could see hank's amazing solos on the cliff tracks alongside his lead playing on Shads numbers. Bruce's contribution was clear too - an essential part of the sound. When you consider how many dongs they wrote too - you realised what an unbearable band they were. Brian was amazing too. Better than the beatles :)

But is there a vid of a full set from the 60s as a comparison. I love the 1962 live from Kingston album but what about live vids.

As far as I know the only live shads vids/DVDs are:

Live from Liverpool
Final tour
Cliff and shads 2009 reunion
Thank you very much

And even in the later days it was not so easy. I remember the 1983 Shadows concert in Brussels where someone attempted to video the performance from quite in the back. The equipment was that huge that he was spotted after a few minutes by the security and his equipment was confiscated. He got it back after the concert - wiped!

There is some footage (B&W or very degraded colour) of one of the 1975 Paris Olympia shows. From the looks of it, it is not footage from the songs that were released on the album as Brian's solo in Flingel Bunt seems different.

I am assuming that this would have been shot on film as I can't imagine that too many people had home video cameras in 1975 and it looks like amateur footage. I have no idea exactly how much of the show was filmed - one would like to think all of it.

Twilight Ranger wrote:A Shadows concert — or part of it — was recorded for Dutch television in 1980. It was aired in Finland by the Finnish BBC (YLE) at the beginning of May the same year. I recorded it on a VHS tape and when I bought a Pioneer television tuner and DVD recorder in 2003, I transferred the 30-minute programme on to a DVD. As I didn't have a hi-fi VCR in those days, and I'm not even certain it had been invented in 1980, the quality of both the video and the sound is rather poor.

The credit titles say it was done by Veronica Omroep Organisatie, or something close to that. I'm not sure because the picture is very blurred. George Ford is on bass guitar. Bruce has a white guitar while Hank's is black — a Burns, I think, but I'm not sure. I'm not a guitar expert.

There's a lot of banter.
Bruce to the audience: "Are You happy tonight? We'll soon change that."
Hank: "Who would like to hear Wonderful Land? Will you put the record on, please?"

A 10-year-old girl comes on stage and gives flowers to the members of the band. Hank to the girl: "Are you married?"

The music:
1. The Frightened City
2. Shadoogie
3. Parisienne Walkways
4. Let Me Be the One
5. Wonderful Land
6. Cavatina
'7. Apache
8. FBI

I don't watch this programme very often because of its poor quality.

Hank is using his black Fender Strat.

The whole concert is available as a bootleg and clocks in at over two hours. If you were to ask me where you could get it from, then sadly I wouldn't have a clue...
