Ronnie Bennett from Bebbington on Merseyside builds pedal steel guitars - he was part of the "Hillsiders" country band for many years!

Apart from a very small number of British pedal steel players, the technique over here never comes up to the standard of their USAian country music cousins

I saw Gerry Hogan with Albert Lee last night in Swindon. Albert was fantastic as usual and I've followed Gerry's career since the 1970s. He was responsible for an ambitious series of annual Steel Guitar Conventions held near his home town of Newbury which resulted in many famous American players coming here to perform. Sadly these have now ceased but Gerry is still trading hot licks with Hogan's Heroes and Albert.

Not a sound that's ever appealed to me, as soon as I hear that awful whine I have to leave the room at great speed.

Only opera and modern jazz can make me move faster!

Hi Clive! I chatted to B.J Cole after a fantastic Pedal Steel concert in London which also featured U.S legend Al Perkins. B.J. had done an Olivia session for John Farrar in the 70's and you can hear him on a couple of her early hits. A nice guy who has played with everybody over the years...

Does anyone know who played it on that session?
