Cliff and the Shadows 'Move it'. UNUSUAL!!!

Postby drakula63 » 19 Nov 2014, 11:48

I thought I'd put this in a different thread so that it didn't get lost.

Go to the 18:30 point on the following programme and you'll find a very, very unusual version of 'Move it' by Cliff and the Shads. Hank's solo is - unique! The whole performance sounds like they were playing live. The audience appears to be enjoying the experience, as does the 1970 Cliff as he watches it on a black and white TV! I'm sure you will too!!!

The comment is referring to a TV show 'four years ago'. As the recordings for this show took place in September 1970 (broadcasted on 15. March 1971) the track must come from a UK TV show from 1966, however I could not find out more details.

I'm sure the clip they were watching, was from a tv program broadcast in Germany. There are other clips from the same show on youtube.

I recognize one of the girls in the Move it piece in the audience. I think her name was Marilyn or Marion Webb and she had a lot to do with the Shadows Fan Club.

The last time I spoke to her was on the occasion of John Rostill's last performance at the Sheffield Fiesta in June 1970

Yeah, I honestly don't think that the black and white clip that Cliff is watching is from a British TV show. Seems far more likely that it WAS indeed a German show that he hadn't seen; hence the fact that they wheeled it out to show him whilst the stage was being set. Mind you, we see more of the audience than we do of Cliff and the Shads!

Cliff sang the wrong line and it all went a bit pear shaped, still it goes to show we are all prone to the odd mistake.
Very funny though! At least the audience did not notice - they were too busy screaming.

Surely, the title "Cliff in Berlin" gives a bit of a clue as to where it was recorded?

We can actually see (and hear) Hank using a DeArmond 610 pedal in the black and white clip!
