Aberystwyth Children In Need

If you can get to Aberystwyth today, Ken Gilbert and myself will once again be playing lots of Shadows music and other vintage instrumentals, for most of the day in the town centre, with the help of the Aberystwyth Lions.

An honourable venture Noel. Undercover I hope.

Cheers, Alan.

Thanks folks. I posted this on two other forums so please forgive me posting the same reply to all three. We played for five hours and I'm too knackered to write it three times!

We had a great day, no rain and lots of sunshine. And as for those gales that were forecast, there wasnt a breath of wind in Aberystwyth.

As always when we play the vintage stuff, including plenty of Shads, we received many words of appreciation – one gentleman came up and said that listening to us made him realise just how good those old tunes are. One rather ambiguous comment came from a lady who told us, "You play some lovely music for old-timers". I'm still not sure if she meant the music was lovely for old-timers to listen to or that she meant we played lovely music considering that WE were old-timers!

The nicest moment, for me, was after I had just finished playing La Mer and a gent came up and said, "I'd like to shake your hand, I had trouble holding the tears back." I just hope he meant tears of emotion and not pain!

We don't know how much we raised yet, but the Aberystwyth Lions, who did the collecting, were kept very busy. Looking forward to next year already.

Yes the Bose was in action yesterday, too. No time to rest sore fingers, though - it's our guitar club meeting this afternoon!

Hank and the Shadows got a mention on the main 'Children in Need' programme on BBC1 last night after the ten o'clock news.

Poor old Terry Wogan 'confused' Hank Marvin with the boyfriend/fiancee/husband of his co-presenter who's name, apparently, is Marvin.

Such hilarity. Still, as long as it's all in a good cause.

Very commendable indeed. Sharing your talents with the public for such a good cause - £902 is fantastic.
