'New' Cliff and the Drifters CD

Postby nivram106 » 26 Nov 2014, 11:03

Hi All

Just had an email regarding this, the sound quality probably won't be great, but a nice historic recording to add to the collection. Available from Bim Bam Records :D

Cheers
Jim

Sounds interesting although I'm guessing the quality's not up to much. I wonder why this 56-year-old recording has just surfaced. Has anyone seen it before?

Martin.

Twenty Flight Rock, Jailhouse Rock, Money Honey and Heartbreak Hotel (recorded by Stan Edwards) were first issued in 1997 on the 4CD set, The Rock N Roll Years 1958-1963 (on CD 4).

In fact the accompanying booklet with the four CDS that you referred to say that 'technical problems with the tape prevent the release of every track'. I guess they must have sorted out the other five unreleased tracks somehow.

First tune on the list? 20 Flight Rock. Like Summertime Blues and C'mon Everybody, those Eddie Cochran songs have really stayed the course. 20 Flight Rock was of course the song that got Paul McCartney into The Quarrymen.

Coming right up to date, well, last Friday anyway, at the Surrey Shadows Club, the Local Heroes had played everything they knew, Bruce Welch had led the audience applause for the band, and still the crowd wanted more. At that point, Daniel Martin took over and said over the PA "We thought we'd do a bit of rock'n'roll for you" What did he choose to sing? 20 Flight Rock !

Hi Ray

Daniel Martin played and sung 20 Flight Rock brilliantly. Many will get the chance to hear and see his great performance when our DVD is released. Watch out for this in a future Surrey Shadows Club Newsletter.

Cheers,

Bob
