Great! I have a feeling this was from from the Kenny Everett Show? or one of those afternoon weekday pop shows? Or possibly both.

Thanks for posting, Mark

I'd forgotten what a terrific pop song that was!

OK. So Alan Jones masquerading as Jeff Lynne. But who was disguised as Marc Bolan on the keyboards. Surely not Cliff Hall?

One of my favourite Shads tracks. So unlike anything else they did. Bruce belted out a great vocal.

A very good track indeed. I also like the live versions from the 1978 UK Autumn tour. Those sounded more recognisable as The Shadows. The studio version clocks in at about 3:54, whereas the live version was extended to around 4:35. The studio version features Adrian Lee, so I assume he can be seen in the promo video, or is it Dave Lawson?

The following can be read in Malcolm Campbell's book "A Pocket Guide To Shadow Music":
"George Geddes writes: “The first Shadows’ Single of 1978 was a surprising choice ... [While in America] Bruce Welch had found LOVE DELUXE as a possible Album track for Cliff Richard, but then suggested The Shadows might consider it. The lead vocal was taken by Bruce himself and the Single was far removed from the sound associated with the group. The ‘disco’ feeling was also in evidence on the instrumental B-side ... written by the group. So unlike The
Shadows’ sound was the record that Tony Blackburn, playing the Single on ‘The National Pop Panel’ section of his Radio One programme, refused to name the group until after panellists had given their verdict. The panel voted the record a hit, and were duly astonished upon discovering the identity of the performers, but the disc received much criticism in the music press. One reviewer (Harry Doherty in Melody Maker) called it ‘weak-kneed pop’ and it was not a substantial hit, appearing in the Top Hundred for two weeks at No.86 and No.80.”".

I saw the Shads perform this song live in Brighton way back when. At the time Hank used a Les Paul shaped Roland guitar synth for this number and preceded it with a synth "battle" between him and the keyboard player. Great fun and the only time i ever saw one of those units used in anger.
