In my humble opinion, 'what ifs', 'why didn'ts', 'if onlys' are a waste of time, energy and emotion.
A very famous person (I don't recall who) once said 'there is no future in looking back' - how true. There is nothing we can change.
What you people in the UK and Europe can look back on with hopefully a good deal of pleasure and thanks is a highly entertaining and successful tour by The Shadows and Cliff. At least thats what the reports seem to indicate.
To me, it matters not a jot which lineup of the Shadows is on stage (I've seen only two different lineups) - I'd enjoy performances by all past and present members and am just thankful that they've undertaken such an extensive and I imagine quite exhausting touring schedule.
I'll be quite happy to see and I'm sure thoroughly enjoy, the performance by whoever is on stage on March 1, 2010 in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Rant over and Season's Greetings to you all.
Cheers,
JB

Bang on the money there John.
saw the band in Sheffield, fantastic. You have a great time when you see them, I'm sure you will. For my money this is the best shads line up. see what you make of Warren, if there is anything he can't play. It's most likely because he hasn't tried!

Best regards. Ian

Hi all you are absolutely spot on Ian, Warren is a fantastic musician!
2009 was a vintage year for all shads fans, 2010 is going to be a classic year for all living in New Zealand,Austrailia and South Africa. Enjoy!

Post #31 got me thinking: how many Shadows line-ups have I seen live?

(a) Marvin/Bennett/Locking/Carter (April 1962)

(b) Marvin/Welch/Bennett/Rostill (Autumn 1964 and 1965)

(c) Marvin/Bennett/Rostill/Haswkshaw (November 1969)

(d) Marvin/Welch/Bennett/Jones/Monkman (1977)

(e) Marvin/Welch/Bennett/Jones/Hall (1978 and several more times through to mid-1980s).

(f) Marvin/Welch/Bennett/Hall/Westwood (1986)

(g) Marvin/Welch/Bennett/Hall/Griffiths (1987, 2004)

[edit]

(h) Marvin/Welch/Bennett/Griffiths/Bennett (2005, 2009)

I never saw Jet with The Shadows (only just missed that), or Tony Meehan. I also missed the 1975 tour with Alan Tarney on bass and John Farrar on guitar. Never saw John Farrar live except in his night-club duo act with Hank, Pat Carroll and Mo Foster. Never saw George Ford live with the group.

JN

PS: Go on...ask me about Carter.

What were The Shadows like with Peter Carter on rhythm, Jim? ;)

Clive

PS Did anyone (apart from me!) see Hank playing with The Hellecasters (John Jorgenson, Will Ray and Jerry Donahue) at Wembley in 1996? I don't ever recall anyone mentioning this gig! Peter Green and Yngwie Malmsteen were on the same bill I seem to recall.

JimN wrote:Bruce, Hank, Tony and (in his turn) Brian Bennett were each paid a recorded fee of a few pounds at each session. I say "a few pounds", but it was more than a 16-yr-old apprentice was getting per week.

In his book, Bruce wrote that for the Cliff's first album recording session in 1959, the Drifters were paid £24 overall, which means £6 each...

His bell playing on "Sea Cruise" was particularly noticeable !
Only joking... everything he did was perfect, who else can play as well so many instruments ?

Hi all does anybody know if Warren has any new projects lined up after the tour ends.
A reunited Vibratos or a new EP would be something to look forward too!
we can only hope.
