Shads-related movie for DVD release...

Postby JimN » 25 Feb 2015, 03:38

Looking through the forthcoming releases on the Network DVD site, I see that "French Dressing" (1964) is due to be released on 13th April.

Of significance because of Brian Bennett's music for that movie, this might be of some interest here and at other Shadows sites.

Don't think I have seen that one since its original release!

Fairly sure that this is Brian's first ever film composition.

Never heard of this film before !
Looks like Brian Bennett only composed one tune for the soundtrack.

The music list manages to make the film sound like a jolly World War 1 romp.

At this time Brian Bennett had already writtten "Summer Holiday" (with Bruce Welch), so it wasn't his first film composition !

True.

However, I was really thinking about Brian's compositions outside of the band rather than those that came as a direct result of being a Shadow. Summer Holiday is indeed a ' film theme song', but I'm sure that to most people it is regarded primarily as a pop song. I don't think that Brian's French Dressing compsotion fits into that catagory!

Still, I guess either could be seen as the first Brian Bennett film compositon, depending upon how you choose to look at it.
