Shazam or Shazam?

This may be a trivial question but which version of Shazam do you prefer? the Shadows or Duane Eddy. I prefer the Shads studio take followed by their live version at the Kingston ABC. The live version though slightly shortened has that raw Shads sound from those days where you can hear the obvious tape echo. Apart from that Duane Eddy was my first guitar hero.

The Kingston version closely followed by the South African one

I just prefer the drumming on Kingston.

Both of them capture the energy and excitement of the times.

The Studio version lacks that.

The live in Paris tracks also have that energy. You can tell easily why they were the best group around at that time

Duane Eddy by far.
The Shadows version was downright dull and stately by comparison.

For me, the Shadows' version on the Kingston CD is the best one, by far.
The sound and the energy are there !

The Duane Eddy version for me. The first version I ever heard.

As Ecca said, the Shadows' 1963 studio version (which was the second I heard) was decidedly "steady" by comparison.

Oh, and it's Shazam!. Don't forget the exclamation mark (same for Dance On!).

Same with Riders in the Sky.
The Ramrods is the definitive version for me - because it was the first.

The studio version was too laid back, i prefer the Kingston version followed by the live 2004 version.
I can never, ever get the intro right!

Definitely Duane Eddy's version - much more dynamic and inspiring than the Shadow's versions.

Best wishes
