I bought the Victor Rust book and thought it would be fascinating to read, i was wrong.
Isn't there a version of 'Lara's Theme' recorded by the Shadows around 1965 that was never released?
I'd also love to hear the between takes chat, i bet that would be a giggle.

Wasn't 'Lara's Theme' done by Hank as a solo record ?

I think Hank released it but the Shadows also played it, whether on stage or TV. Can anyone save me looking it up?

I'm sure i read somewhere the Shadows recorded it, whether it's true i don't know. I think it was a favourite of John Rostill.

There's a BBC Radio Shadows version of Lara's Theme from 1967 or maybe early 1968, which was circulated internationally on a BBC broadcast transcription disc.

The track was copied around the fan-base on cassette for some years, but the Italian Fremus CD "Atlantis" (1994) had a dub direct from the BBC disc and expertly remastered.

I'm not aware of a EMI version of the tune by The Shadows, but Hank recorded it for his 1969 debut solo album.

That's the one I'm thinking of Jim, the 1969 one.

I'm a bit surprised that I wasn't able to find it on YouTube, but the Shadows' version was commercially released on:

And it was apparently early 1968 (first broadcast date).

Well remembered. Yes they did. It starts 2 minutes in :)

And after Lara's Theme, they do Putting on the Style, in which John Rostill is brilliant - listen to the end

The Shadows performed Lara's Theme first on the Val Doonican TV Show (25. November 1967) then on the BBC Saturday Club (16. December 1967) followed Top Of The Pops (26. January 1968). Possibly the recordings used for Saturday Club and Top Of The Pops are identical.
