Talking of lifting bass lines, try playing Jon Entwistle's solo bits from My Generation in Shazam!

Works a treat ... have a listen

I'd never have thought of that - as you say, works well!

Spookily my dad was also a Shads fan - he was a great fan of Hank's playing. I think some of the later 60s stuff was a bit wierd so in hindsight I'm not surprised my dad criticised some of it - I've watched a couple of bbc4 music shows which have included Fire by the crazy world of Arthur Brown - nothing particularly wrong with the music but it sure looks peculiar!!

I remember a lot of their appearances from the time when I was in the 4th/5th form at school, trying in vain to convince my friends (who would walk around school with Armed Forces by Elvis Costello or Lynyrd Skynyrd or Led Zep LPs under their arms) that The Shadows were a great group!! It's funny but the prevailing feeling at the time seemed to be, "What are these ageing has-beens doing, trying to have another bit of chart glory" whereas now they don't look much older than their late 70s chart contemporaries!

I probably wouldn't have noticed their ToTP appearances on BBC4 if it weren't for you! (I agree, there seems to be an anti-Shads bias amongst the programmers of these repeats...)

Cheers,

Clive

Glad to have been of service!!! I have similar memories from school, for what it's worth!!!!

Ooh I don't think so. Surely, any anti-Shads bias lay among the record buyers who didn't put them into the charts much? When they did, TOTP did the honours, and TOTP2 is following suit, currently featuring Riders for the third time. ;)

They cut it out of BOTH the previous editions in which they appeared (the 30 minute versions, that is). They have little choice but to feature them in the 40 minute versions! I cannot see the point of these cut down 30 minute editions - far better to cut World News Today by ten minutes! It's all bad news anyway!!!

I shall be watching tonight (hopefully) with interest!!!

Didn't know that. I have only seen the 40 minuters. Having said that, faced with the job of cutting the programme down to 30 I would probably have removed Riders too!

Well, I'll be honest.

1) I MISSED the 7.30 showing because I was out.

2) I stayed up half the night to watch the 1 a.m. showing (the Shadows were on almost at the end!)

3) It was the BEST (by far) Top of the Pops performance by them that I have ever seen. They were really enjoying it and the camera angles were great!

4) Well worth staying up for!!!
