Marvin, Welch & Farrar

Postby nivram106 » 10 Apr 2015, 14:55

Hello All

Does anyone know if there are any DVD's in circulation containing M,W & F material, especially the 'Song for Europe' with the 6 songs hoping to be picked for Eurovision + Lady Of The Morning, Faithful etc. I have seen some performances on You Tube , some good quality, some poor. It would be nice to have them on DVD.

Thanks in advance

Jim :D

There is a Cilla Black DVD featuring MWF. Nothing 'official' containing the Shadows (not MWF) Eurovision songs.

Yes, Marvin, Welch and Farrar with Brian Bennett, Alan Hawkshaw and Dave Richmond would be a gig I'd pay stupid money to see!!!

The Shadows performed the 6 songs for Eurovision on the Lulu show in 1975 and all still exist in good quality. I don't know why they haven't all made it onto YouTube (am I allowed to say that?). The clip of MWF on the Cilla Black show (it was a Scandinavian special) singing Norwegian Wood with her was preceded on the programme by them doing Lady of the Morning and some banter between Cilla and Hank. There are several clips of MWF singing Lady... but I've never seen one of them doing anything else. I know they made five appearances on "It's Cliff Richard" in 1971 but not sure which songs they performed (all from the first LP, I would guess - as it had just been issued). A friend of mine remembers them singing Marmaduke in the 1972 Cliff series (the one where Hank declined a residency because he wanted to devote more time to MW+F...shortly before Bruce left the group!) but I can't remember this. I don't think the BBC saved any of these programmes.

Sadly, most of the MWF performances no longer exist. Pirate copies of a few are floating around here and there...

They also did some BBC radio sessions (I think Rob B may have chronicled these at some stage) but even if "The Shadows at the BBC" were to appear on CD(s!) I doubt whether the MWF songs would be deemed worthy of inclusion. Ten years after "That Sound...."

If i remember, a CD was going to be released of some 1973 (or 1975) BBC radio sessions but for some reason, vanished. Perhaps someone disagreed with the material.
I'd love to see a M,W&F dvd, i would pay for that!
