Brian on the Box (and the Shads!!!)

WOW!

What a surprise last night! ‘Tales from the Tourbus: Rock ‘n’ Roll on the Road’ – BBC FOUR 9 o'clock - one of the best music documentaries I have ever seen. As a fan, I was almost overwhelmed with satisfaction and pride to see Brian Bennett given such prominence. He was the first person to be interviewed on camera and, an hour later, the last! And several clips of the Shadows too. This was an absolute joy from start to finish. And, if you’ll forgive me for saying so, knowing that I had been in that very studio, and actually touched the kit we could see in the background, was the icing on the cake for me. I hope that everyone watching it took note that, for a variety of reasons, the Shadows were the first British band to hit the highways and byways in any meaningful way. I am sincerely hoping that this is a good omen and that a greater analysis of the band’s history, importance and legacy is not too far away. Speaking of which, I’m sure I’m not mistaken in noticing a subtle Shadows influence that seemed to pervade much of the performances seen and heard in the following programme, ‘Totally British: 70s Rock ‘n’ Roll’.

Yeah – a great night!

Please forgive me, folks, for posting the above pic (actually a grab from a video), as I just could not resist the overwhelming urge!

I am the one on the far right (oooer!) looking suitably awestruck!!!!!

We'll have to see what can be done about that.

Hi All,

I watched it and it was good to see Brian interviewed several times on it.
Gave a bit of an insight to what it was all about.

Brian didn't mention what they used to call their Ford Thames van.
The 'Vomit Box'.

He might have, but they may have cut that bit out!!!

All in all, a brilliant doco that captures perfectly the highs and lows of life on the road. I dunno what Denise Dufort is on, but I want some!!!!

Also, it was cool that Brian got both the first and last word. And I get the distinct impression that drummers are by far the most, er, 'interesting' members of the band.
Hang on, what am I saying? Of course we are!!!!

:D ;)

P.S. Watched it again last night.
