Jeff Beck is touring next year and I've managed to get a ticket for the Bristol gig in October.
I'm so pleased I just wanted to tell people

Strangely enough I was watching him yesterday on youtube doing some blues on Jules Holland. And then Goodbye Pork Pie Hat that I found on the site.
I once had the backing track for this tune but cant find it anymore on jamtrax where I think it was posted. I had a notion to learn it. Í'll need to have a search to see if I can find his version again.

In 1963 my mates and I would go each week to the Mecca Royal in Tottenham, London to see the Johnny Howard band . we weren't interested in chatting up the girls, but stayed pressed against the stage watching the guitarist in the band; only a couple of years older than us. After their set we would ask all sorts of questions about the chords or solos he had played. Yep it was a young Jeff Beck before he went on to fame and fortune. Great player!

His right hand control of everything he does to make sounds is totally amazing. I dont think you could do it quite the same with a pick as using his thumb gives him plenty of room to catch the volume control and tremolo arm plus hammering down on the tremolo unit plus hammering down on the fretboard with his index,and all the other stuff.
Well I cant do it with a pick quite the same
I remember a guy I was trying to get a band going with(bass player) saying to me when I offered him a loan of my wired album:"what, Jeff Beck?" "Is that not him that does that garbage Hi Ho Silver Lining crap"?
His opinion soon changed after listening to the album

I've just finished watching the DVD of Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's and Ecca's right - he is the man! Every number had standout moments concerning his technique. Young Tal Wilkenfled was outstanding on bass and it was great to see the musical rapport she has with Jeff. In fact the whole band really gel.His old mate Eric Clapton guested on a couple of numbers and Jeff was lavish in his praise of EC when introducing him (his exact words were I might as well f*** off now!) but as much as I admire EC his performance seemed pedestrian up against Jeff.
If you haven't seen this DVD I heartily recommend it.

I agree with you on the Jeff taking things to different levels on guitar compared to Clapton.
They both started out pretty much on the same level in the Yardbirds and John Mayall era, but where Eric became more mellow, Jeff became more raunchy and retained his raw blues feel in his playing. I had Jeffs "Wired and also the Jan Hammer albums when they first came out, and Jeffs playing was stunning on them.
I much prefer Jeffs playing as opposed to Eric

I just love watching that Ronnie Scotts gig on DVD... he certainly has all the techniques and a great sound and he must be original having a set of techniques like that the way he works the vol knob and trem arm together with fingers and thumbs and all those great harmonics he gets along with the control of it all.... never get bored of him watching him live is a lesson...
