Great Lakeside Weekend and Thanks

Postby leosden » 27 Sep 2015, 11:16

What a busy day we had again at our Leo's Den stall at Lakeside on Saturday and we want to say how great it was to see so many of your yesterday (Saturday).

Many of you brought your lists with you and we hope we were able to supply most of your wants.
Also good to see the vinyl doing well, old 'collectable' LPs and new, + t-shirts,
DVDs, tour programmes but most of all the CDs from home and overseas.

The groups playing were terrific and really made it a celebration of the music
of The Shadows. A special mentioned must be made of TASTY who travelled over
from Norway and I'm sure everyone there were pleased that they did.....well done.

So here's to next year

Can only echo ( excuse the pun ! ) what has been already said, first time for myself and my son James since the Bruce days and what a nice time we had, everybody was so kind and i thankyou all for the kind words, congratulations to Roy and Kathy for the friday night, they always work really hard to provide an evening of great atmostphere , coupled with great playing from everybody, even had a crack at it myself which was fun.
All the bands played great, congrats to the Shades and the evening Shadows ,really great stuff, Rune and the boys from Tasty for coming all the way over from Norway and giving a great set, Brian Locking was superb as ever, so very talented and such a lovely guy, it was really great to catch up with him again, the Rapiers were absolute perfection, i think this was the best they had ever played / sounded , I really want to mention Lee Restarick who was fabulous, he has really settled in great and has brought so much to the table, his sound was early Jet 100% , he playing was faultless and he looked really sharp in the lineup , you would think he has been there since day one, so many congratulations Lee , its hard to believe but in my opinion the band has moved up to an even greater level if thats possible , so really pleased for them all, Colin John, neil and Lee, The Rapiers, " the best 60s band since the 60s " could not be more true,
looking forward to next year.

I totally agree, Phil. I haven't been to Shadowmania for 5 years ago but as the Rapiers were topping the bill... I thought Tasty and the Evening Shadows were excellent and enjoyed Peter Donegan's set too. The Rapiers were just sublime! It was five years since I'd had the Lakeside chicken curry and chips...and I'd almost forgotten the 70s style 'Please use dipped headlights' sign as you turn out onto Wharf Road. I picked up a Cliff Richard Serious Charge songbook off Ray Hare's stall (could've spent a fortune there!) and discovered that there were lyrics to Chinchilla!! Also, there was a fourth verse to Lionel Bart's No Turning Back which Cliff didn't sing on the EP... After 38 years of being a Shadows fan there are still things to learn!! I'm looking forward to next year's already. Licorice Locking was magnificent: Dakota, Stranger on the Shore and Out of Africa all brought a tear to me - I'm not ashamed to admit.

I shared a table with a very nice chap (sorry, I didn't catch your name); we discovered that we were both born at Honeypot Lane Maternity Hospital in Kingsbury - as was Jet!!

I did miss Bruce, Phil, Cliff, Alan, and Bob though...

The Rapiers were on another planet, they have always been good but they were incredible this year and Lee Rastarick slotted in very well.

Also very impressed with Tasty, they were great. First time ive been since Bruce finished in 2012 and it was a shame there wasnt more people there but those that were had a great time.

Also little disappointed with only Licorice being there rather than Alan and Bruce etc but hey it was a celebration of the shadows music and that was very well catered for.

I haven't been to Lakeside since Bruce called it a day but I would certainly be booking hotel, flights etc if
Alan Jones, Cliff Hall, Phil Kelly, Bob Watkins and Daniel Martin got together to top the bill.
Does anyone know if the above have ever been approached to perform at the new event?

As we ex pats in the far flung reaches of The Colonies are usually desperate for footage of Shads related events, is there any material available from Lakeside?
Thanks, Ian. 8-)
