I bought a new Jaguar, a re-issue of the first (1962) version, when I had some extra funds a year or two ago. The dealer knew I liked flatwounds (tapewound strings) but fitted 10-50s, rather than the thicker gauge I like. I never had use for the Jaguar (it has a differently tone from the Jazzmaster) as the Ventures never really used one. However, at practice before last Friday’s gig, we tried it for rhythm rather than the Stratocaster. The Jaguar’s several controls, particularly the lead/rhythm selector switch, allowed Roy, our rhythm guitarist, to shift tones quickly. A mellow one for “Trambone,” for instance, and a brighter one for “Walk Don’t Run.” It worked really well, so we’ll probably stick with the Jaguar for Ventures work. I was lucky to have gotten a sunburst model, so it fits right in. Here's Roy last Friday.

Nice Jaguar there, Andy. I only acquired mine last year, when I saw a Fiesta Red one. It is from the Fender Mexican 'Classic ' series, & is a Ltd. edition, having the Nitro-Cellulose 'Flash coating' on the body & neck. It's is a great 'Rhythm' player, & does that bright acoustic-style jangle tone with both pickups on, & a mellower bass tone on the Rhythm circuit.

Talk about serendipity! I was in Southport at the weekend, taking part in an event for the Southport Festival, and discovered a great guitar shop called Dad's Guitars. I knew I was going to like the place the moment I opened the door and the door 'chime' rang out – the opening chord to A Hard day's Night! ...

I happened to mention to a young friend (the daughter of Anna) that I wished the opening chord of “A Hard Day’s Night” were on my phone as a message ringtone. She had never heard the song, so we Googled an original version. Within minutes, the opening chord was on my phone! That’s the good thing about having young friends. I use the ringtone for my musician friends; it is great.
