on Stage monitoring

Hi looking at some kind of personal stage monitor
we use the usual wedge stage monitors which are ok
but i still struggle to hear properly
i have tried in ear monitors ,but can never seem to get a decent balance and miss the ambient band sound.
i was looking at the studiomaster livesys5
anyone tried one of these or anything similar.

Depends what you want to monitor.

Our band all find the ElectroSound Flea good for monitoring vocals. We have one each. It's passive and high impedance and can be mounted on a mic stand as near your ear as you like.

All these small monitors seem to be ideal for the VERY small stages that we play on for the majority of our gigs.
Sometimes, there's no stage at all or just room for the drum kit!!!

Thanks everyone for the information
the monitoring i require is mainly for vocal harmonies
and just a touch of the overall foh mix.
i have lost a lot of the high frequency range from my hearing and now wear hearing aids for everyday situations
wearing the in ear systems dont seem to work too well for me. and the stage wedges are often too far away
for any real clarity.

I have industrial noise damage - losses both ears at about 2k but not identical - and also 2 db down generally in the left ear.

Back in the 1970's - for recording - I made up a headphone monitor which included a stereo equalizer. This allowed me to balance level at all frequencies.
In use - I would balance my ears up so that the recordings I produced would be ok for normal hearing.

The unit has long gone.

I have been looking for a headphone amp with these facilities but not found one yet. I suppose in ear monitoring systems will not allow one to balance both level and frequency to ones ears - which is a shame.

How about a separate amplifier first in the chain to modify the frequencies, then feed the re-equalised signal into the headphone/in-ear/personal-monitor amp?
