Love, Truth and Emily Stone

Postby drakula63 » 26 May 2016, 14:17

A fantastic song, co written by Hank and, I presume, Jerry Lordan's wife Petrina.

It appears on Cliff's semi-compile album Tracks 'N Grooves from 1970. The credits on the album are sparse and I was just wondering if anyone can confirm that it is Hank playing the lead guitar? It sure sounds like him to me.

Similarly, are the likes of Brian Bennett, Dave Richmond, Herbie Flowers known to be on any tracks?

Ta!

Yes, it is Hank - although it doesn't confirm this in the Lewry/Goodall book. LTaES was lined up to be a follow-up to Throw Down a Line as a 'Cliff & Hank' single and some demo copies were pressed but in the end the release was cancelled. A great song and the standout track on Tracks 'n' Grooves. The Joy of Living was the eventual single from Cliff & Hank but as this wasn't a big hit, they weren't paired up on disc again.
It sounds like Herbie Flowers playing bass on LTaES, but I'm not sure about anyone else. It was apparently recorded on 29th July 1969 at Abbey Road with the Mike Vickers Orchestra - at the same session as Reflections and With the Eyes of a Child.

I have a demo recording of "Love, Truth And Emily Stone" by Hank himself. Also, I have one of "Throw Down A Line", also by Hank himself.

I'd love to hear some Hank demos, or Shadows studio demos/out takes but have resigned myself to the fact i probably never will (unless i break into Abbey Road!)
