Who Played Bass on Dakota? ... Track bouncing

It appears that Dakota was recorded in August 1963 in Blackpool using basic 2 track gear.
Licorice played the main melody on his harmonica - so who played Bass at the time?

Licorice did.

Same as Jet playing bass on Bo Diddley.

Yes, the harmonica parts will have been overdubbed by Licorice in both cases.

The basic track for Bo Diddley was already in the can with Jet on bass and one of Licorice's first recording jobs was to add the harmonica part. Dakota had him on both bass and harmonica. I don't know, but guess, that the basic track will have contained the bass, with the harmonica added afterwards. Whether that was done on the same day I don't know.

Thanks guys. The way I read it, it was all done and dusted on a rwo tracker on the same day which made me wonder if there was a Stand in for Lic or if his harmonica was added, say at Abbey Road later. Mind, if one listens to the Bass line, it's very Locking

Agreed. I've just played it again, and June said straight away "Is that Stratpicker?" I think it works just as well as a guitar instrumental as a harmonica solo.

thanks for the feedback. I've played it at Congleton and at Warwick and it seemed to go down OK.
Still begs the original question thought - if Lic played Bass - and clearly he did - and he played the harmonica too - one of them had to have been added later. My "assumption" is that The Shads laid down the BT in Blackpool and Lic added the harmonica at some other time - maybe Abbey Road? Unless of course the basic two tracker was capable of some kind of "track bouncing " trick.

I'm sure by the time they returned to Abbey Road Licorice has already left, perhaps i'm wrong but i believe the Jubilee Theatre recordings were all him and when they went back to Abbey Road John Rostill was in the band?

That's not right actually. All the Shadows tracks for the 'Wonderful Life' film were recorded at Abbey Road with Licorice in sessions stretching into early November 1963, well after the end of the Blackpool summer season. John was present as an observer at the last of these and also went on to appear in the film but mimed to what Licorice had already recorded.
