Hello from Manila

It has been a long time since i posted. I thought i would say hello and greet all a happy new year.

We haven't been as active playing Shadows in the last two years. Other interests have intervened. We've been playing at dance parties and events thouhh, but almost all Ventures. The early pieces of the American band were quite popular here and bring back memories. They slso bring people to the dance floor. So we play Blue Moon, Lullaby of the Leaves and so on. We swapped our fiesta red guitars for the sunburst favored by the Ventures. I use a Jazxmaster and our rhythm guitarist a Jaguar. Anna uses her 'Nokie Edwards' Precision, shown hrre.. We include one Shadows piece, In the Mood, as that is quite danceable and sounds all right on a Jazzmaster.

No Voxes and no echo boxes!

For pleasure, i still enjoy Shadows pieces more.

I have only this photo of the band on this tablet, taken earlier last year. We've taken to wearing white shirts ss our uniform. The good thing about playing Ventures music is that their 'sound' isnt as exacting as the Shadows. I don't bring amps usually, as I would if playing Shadows, and can make do with Twin Reverbs, which we specify in the technical riders for the events.

Our rhythm guitarist started out using a Stratocaster, correct gor some Ventures pieces, but switched to a Jaguar, ss that proved more flexible. 'Trambone,' for instance, requires a very different sound from 'Walk Don't Run.'

Invitations and posters, including online, have been based on very early Ventures album covers. They rang bells for those of a certain age. We still play as 'Walking Shadow.'
