I thought perhaps it was painted on then painted over at some later date.
I wonder if that was quite flash for 1960/61?

Well, in 1960/61 it was quite cool as far as many of us oldies (who were then fairly young!) were concerned! :D

Bit cheeky of Hank to personalise what wasn't really his own guitar though...but then he couldn't really have put HW or CR on it I s'pose... :roll: ;) :D

I always thought it was an understated British way of personalising one's instrument- whereas the US artists had their names in large inlays on the neck of guitar or emblazoned on the scratchplate etc!! :D

I've found a good pic of Bruce's Jazzmaster with 'BW' letters attached in my 'Me and My Shadows' book - but can't get the image resolution right (never done this before...I know!) so in the meantime...
