There's a terrible dance version of Apache by naff techno band Hot Chip. It's so heartbreakingly bad.

There have been remixes of other Shadows tracks, like "Dancing In The Dark". This was in the era, when all original parts of a recording were reused to create an (extended) remix of a track. I quite like the three remixes, which were made of The Shadows' version of "Dancing In The Dark".
The 2004 remix of the 1989 recording of "Wonderful Land" was done with new 'instrumentation' or rather synthesized noises from a DJ/producer. These kind of remixes leave very little of the original artists' recording intact. I also have similar remixes of The Who's "My Generation" and Duane Eddy's "Ghost Riders In The Sky", which I don't really like. I think it is a very cheap way to make money. Every computer wizard can create something like this, without any musical knowledge.

Well if we're talking about the ultimate version of Apache, there's really nothing to not love about this one:

Apart from the half naked dancing girls it doesn't work IMO. I hate the what I call 'vulgar' unsympathetic orchestration that hasn't been thought out and just stabbed in.

I'd like to hear a really good orchestrated version of Apache, that could work.

None of the others do in my opinion. To my mind the Shadows are like the Beatles - you either do it properly, or don't bother.

(Write your own music, then you can muck about with that to your heart's content!)

Just listened to Bert Weedon's original version of Apache via YouTube (having realised that I thought the one on his 22 Golden Guitar Greats album was the original).

Terrible. Awful. I had to turn it off before the end. It's real Saturday evening light entertainment variety show stuff. I almost fell asleep during the intro. OK, I am biased, but the Shadows version is by far the best and has never been bettered (either before or since!!).

And, if you see the trailer for the new DreamWorks movie, Boss Baby, you will hear the IBB again...

I think the Ventures did it after the Shadows as well but i've never read what they thought of it but i think the Shads liked some Ventures material and vice versa.

They both did the same tunes quite a lot- they did cover each others tunes at times. I read an interview in Vintage Rock mag where Hank wasn't too polite about the Ventures, although he was sort of joking as he tends to do..conversely, from what I've read, The Ventures liked and respected the Shadows..they also covered at least one Bert Weedon tune- Ginchy..and Telstar by the Tornados. The Shads did the Ventures' Slaughter on 10th Ave, Perfidia etc

I always thought the Shads version of Perfidia was abysmal, on the other hand their SOTA was light years ahead of the Ventures.
